How to cleanse if you have combination skin
Combination skin is skin that features two or more different characteristics, making it especially vulnerable as the condition of your skin depends on the season you’re in. This means a different skin regime for the summer and the winter and thorough understanding of what your skin needs. Typically, you can tell you have combination skin if you have dry, flaky patches on the cheeks, and excessive oil on the other parts of your face. In such a case you may have to twist and turn your skin care regime around to one that caters to the different facets of your skin. A very important part of it is cleansing.
Anyone with great skin will tell you just how crucial cleansing is to keep their skin looking that way. It is the first step in your skin care routine and one that must never, ever be skipped. No matter how tired or tipsy or lazy you are. EVER!
Okay, but how do I know the right way to cleanse if I have combination skin?
If you have combination skin and are in the research bits of finding your cleansing routine, read on!
1. Use mild gel-based formulas
Okay so let’s get specific. When you have combination skin, what it really means is that the T-zone and chin areas of your face are the ones that are oily and the rest of your face is dry. You’re going to want to get a cleansing product that is balanced. Please, please keep away from products that are too strong, or harsh, as they will strip your skin of its natural oils. Instead, use a mild gel-based formula and you’re good to glow.
2. Exfoliation is your new best friend
Exfoliate no more than two times a week and no less than two times a week. You’re going to want to stick to a pea-sized amount of face scrub as that’s pretty much all you need for this skin type. You’re also going to want to stick to face scrubs with tiny beads, to be extra gentle (and extra cleansed)!
3. Find what ingredient works best for you
Every skin type reacts differently to different ingredients and that’s what makes the science of skin care such a fascinating thing! For those with combination skin, some of the ingredients you should be looking for in your cleansing product are tea tree oil, bakuchiol, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, panthenol, aloe vera gel, alpha hydroxy acid (AHAs), and beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs).
4. There’s a perfect toner somewhere out there
So here’s a truth bomb: if you have combination skin, finding the right toner will be harder than it probably is for your fellow one-skin type friends. But hey, it’s never too bad with us around. When looking for the right toner, there are things you should avoid – fragrances, natural oils, and skin irritants like alcohol menthol.Instead, look for skin repairing ingredients like ceramides and fatty acids, antioxidants, and cell stimulating ingredients like AHAs (Alphahydroxy acids) and BHAs (Betahydroxy acids).
5. Quench your thirst with Micellar Water
Micellar water is a wonder product when it comes to combination skin and you’re going to want to include it in your skin care regime pronto! Its water formulation ensures your skin gets the hydration it needs while gently cleaning away the built-up oil and dirt. Squeeze a couple of drops on a cotton pad and then dab and slide. Et voila!
6. Your skin’s favourite product is in your glass of water!
Sometimes what’s best for your skin is also super easy to find and by this, we mean a good old GLASS OF WATER! Drink lots and lots and lots of water. It’s the number one rule and skin hack 101 to great skin regardless of what type it is.
Water cleanses your skin from the inside, getting rid of toxins and preventing acne and dull skin. So, start your day and end your day and fill your day with lots of water for skin that always looks fresh!
