Don’t we all agree that your mane is definitely high mane-tainance! ‘a little bit of TLC, a little extra care, will not only make your hair healthier and stronger but also help you achieve the desired result and vitamins can provide you that care/nourishment. If your hair is sparse, falls flat, or is taking forever to grow out, all you need are the right vitamins.

Vitamin supplements, when taken orally are absorbed in the bloodstream where they nourish all cells, including your hair follicles. So, it is important to know which vitamins can help you tackle your hair problem. But don’t fret ladies, we won’t let you look around for long as we have prepared a consolidated and verified list for you that will help you deal with your specific problem.

Hair fall

Hair fall happens when your hair follicles don’t get enough nourishment. Here are some vitamins you can try to prevent hair fall and boost hair growth.

1. Vitamin A

Vitamin A increases the rate of hair growth and helps in keeping the scalp healthier and retain hair.

You can include Vitamin A in your diet naturally by adding foods such as sweet potatoes, sweet peppers, and spinach to your diet.

2. Vitamin D

Taking Vitamin D supplements can help in stimulating hair follicles as a lack of vitamin D in your body can stunt your hair growth.

Add fatty fish, egg yolks, mushrooms, spinach, broccoli, etc to your daily diet to have a natural intake of Vitamin D.

3. Vitamin H

This helps in fatty acid synthesis, a process that keeps up your hair cycle and stimulates hair growth.

You can consult your doctor and get supplements for this vitamin prescribed as per your condition.

Dry Hair

Shiny and hydrated hair is hard to achieve with your conditioner alone, for that you need to add a dose of vitamins to your food.  Here’s what you can do.

1. Vitamin B Complex

Also known as Biotin, Vitamin B Complex works wonders for your hair. It keeps them hydrated and prevents them from thinning and drying

Lean meats including poultry, eggs, seafood, beans, peas, lentils, nuts and soy products can give you your natural dose of biotin. Apart from this, you can also get Vitamin B complex tablets from your doctor.

2. Vitamin E

Vitamin E is one of the best nutrients that work directly on the scalp.

Nuts, pumpkins, red bell peppers, spinach, beets, avocados are a few natural sources of vitamin E. However, it is important to keep in mind that Vitamin E takes a little longer to show results.

3. Vitamin C

Vitamin C which is present in citrus fruits is a water soluble vitamin. It works the fastest and speeds up collagen production in your body. Vitamin C also helps in absorbing iron in your body, which is a very essential nutrient for  hair

Thinning of Hair

A big chop, excessive hair fall or just breakage and split ends, thinning of hair can happen because of anything. Hair contains some of the fastest-dividing cells in the body, but since they are not important for sustenance, they are given least priority by your body. Hence you need to consume extra vitamins to boost growth of thick hair. The right vitamins and supplements can give your hair that extra oomph factor.

1. Vitamin C

Rich in antioxidants, vitamin C has powerful properties that can help limit oxidative stress from free radicals. Since it helps in producing collagen, it also helps maintain hair structure.

Eat oranges, gooseberries (Amla), lemon and lime, banana, kiwi, etc. daily and see the results yourself!

2. Biotin

Biotin or Vitamin B Complex is the most essential vitamin for hair. From thickening of hair to increasing growth, Vitamin B complex works wonders for your hair volume.

3. Vitamin D

Vitamin D works best for hair follicle growth and healthy follicles result in shinier, thicker hair. Deficiency of Vitamin D is seen as the most common factor of sudden thinning of hair.

You can consume Vitamin D by either incorporating it into your diet (mushrooms, spinach, meats, eggs, etc.) or through natural resources such as the sun. Vitamin D supplements are also easily available in the market for you to buy.

Graying Hair

Graying of hair is a beautiful sign of your ageing. However, some people may not like premature graying. While reversing the grays may not be possible (unless you want to dye them, of course) you can surely preserve the rest of the color. Here a few vitamins that can help you.

1. Vitamin B5

B5 is involved in melanin production, which is why it helps prevent hair from turning grey.

Vitamin B5 is found naturally in whole grains, beans, mushrooms, eggs, cauliflowers and greens

2. Vitamin B6

B6 may bring your hair back to its original color following an illness or deficiency. Para-Amino Benzoic Acid and Pantothenic Acid are part of the family of B Complex vitamins. They can easily help you postpone the onset of graying.

Poultry, wheatgerm, soya bean, banana, fish, oats are a natural source of b6. However, you can always find supplement tablets in the market too.

3. Vitamin B12

The deficiency of Vitamin B12 is the most common reason for graying hair. Essential for your metabolism, DNA production, and energy levels, B12 can stop premature graying and help preserve your natural hair color
