Classic Cat Eyes & More – Watch Out For These Eye Trends

Classic Cat Eyes & More – Watch Out For These Eye Trends

November 24th, 2021 | by

Between work from home, COVID restrictions, and a renewed love for staying indoors, we have all found that perfect opportunity to play with all the colourful eyeshadow palettes and glittery eyeliners we have accumulated over the years. After all, who is judging you for wearing blue eyeshadow at home on a Tuesday afternoon?

This ‘freedom’ has actually led to a renewed spark of creativity with makeup for many, and we are finally seeing more than just the usual cat eye or glitter eyeshadow look.

Instagram is no more just a photo sharing app but a magazine that showcases fresh, new makeup trends, ranging from graphic eyeliners to bright inner corners, thanks to makeup enthusiasts and inspired influencers.

And, now that restrictions are lifting and we are getting the opportunity to show off our newfound eye makeup skills to more than just our housemates or colleagues on Zoom, it’s time to unleash our inner artists.

To make it easier for you, we have compiled the top trending eye makeup looks that have taken over our social media feeds this year and some that will continue well into the next year. So get your pens, pencils, and eyeliners out, and start taking some notes!

GET THE LOOK: Nicka K Nine Color Eyeshadow Palette – Birthday Cake

Gone are the days of one and done shimmery brown eyeshadow. It’s time to pull out your colourful eyeshadow palette and play a game of roulette! Give yourself permission to try out unexpected colour combinations that might just end up looking stunning, like light yellow and lavender. Keep your eye makeup brushes handy though, because blending is key to perfecting a look like this.

Pro tip: Apply excess face powder under your eyes before applying bright eyeshadow. In case of any fallout, you can simply brush it all away for a canvas that’s as good as new.

Classic cat eyes never go out of style – after all, they are called a classic for a reason. So, if you want to stick to the basics but still have an unexpected element about your look, try doing a double-wing or layering your eyeliner with two different colours.

You can also try a graphic liner look – banana or floating eyeliner, underliner, or any random shape, really. The possibilities are truly endless! And everything is welcome.

Pro tip: Want equal wings every single time? Start your eyeliner on the side that you are the weakest on. It is easier to then mirror your work and match it up on your stronger side.

Every makeup addict has a classic black smokey eye look in their arsenal of makeup skills. We say, switch it up and try pulling it off with brighter, neon colours instead for a fresher feel.

Use the same approach you do for smokey eyes, but just replace your blacks and browns with colours. Start with a base shade that matches your skin tone and blend a slightly deeper colour into your eye crease.

Then pack your main colour onto the eyelid, blend it a bit and finish off with the deepest eyeshadow colour in your outer crease to add dimension.

Pro tip: You don’t have to immediately dip your toes into brighter colours to pull off the trend. Start slow with lighter shades of pink and orange, and then work your way up to the neons and pastels.

GET THE LOOK: FAE Beauty Glaws Gloss – Transforming Unicorn

Gloss isn’t just for your lips anymore – it’s for your lids, too! Add lots of shine and sparkle with an eye gloss, perfect to top off any coloured eyeshadow with.

Or if you want a more editorial look, consider wearing it as is, on a bare lid. Whichever way you choose, it is the easiest way to add a touch of glam to an otherwise minimal look.

Pro tip: If you cannot find an eye gloss, use an eye-safe lip gloss instead! It will deliver the same effect, at most likely half the price. Simply take some on your fingers, and then pay it gently onto your eyelids. Touch up as and when needed.

GET THE LOOK: L.A. Girl Shockwave Metallic Eyeliner – Dragon

Put the pedal to the metal and pull out your metallic eyeshadows and eyeliners! With the festive and party season in full swing, there is no better time to experiment with metallics and glitters on the eyes.

Pro tip: If you don’t have a metallic eyeliner, worry not! Simply spritz some of your setting spray onto your metallic eyeshadow and pick up the product with your liner brush.

We wouldn’t be lying if we said we almost tried some of these while picking them out for you, because they’re not only so striking but very refreshing too! So, are you ready to upgrade your eye makeup game? Be sure to try out one of these super eye-conic trends when you pick up your makeup brushes next!
