An Expert Guide on How to Remove Facial Hair

August 4th, 2021 | by

Women and their beauty regime go way back, starting from cleansing and moisturising to makeup removal and a night of beauty sleep. A lot is covered during the day. And all of this is because women spend a considerable time behind skincare.

While skincare routine can be curated according to a particular skin type, there are a few things where the face needs more attention. Like, when it comes to unwanted facial hair. The growth of facial hair can be excessive and sometimes can lead to coarse and dark growth.

Even if the hair on a woman’s face might not be very rough and coarse, it can be very fine thin hair. We call that ‘peach fuzz’ and this texture is caused by a condition called hirsutism.

Natural elements play a huge role when it comes to removing facial hair, and the power of ghar ke nuske cannot be compromised.

There are multiple ways to remove facial hair, let us dive into the DIY home remedies:

1. Gram Flour + Rose Water

Gram Flour + Rose Water

This is one of the most popular methods in which both the ingredients  can be found at every Indian home. Gram flour is known for its exfoliating properties. It makes your skin brighter and leaves a smooth texture. And when we talk about rose water, its herbal goodness has no comparison. Both together hold back hair growth and  are an excellent combination to remove facial hair.

How to use it:

  • Use a fresh and clean bowl to make a mixture
  • Take 2 tablespoons of gram flour
  • Top it with 2 tablespoons of rose water
  • Add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice if you’d like to go for some citric goodness
  • Mix it well to form a paste and apply it to your face
  • After it dries, use your fingers to rub it off and remove your facial hair gently.

Also, gram flour can be combined with turmeric powder and fresh cream as well to remove facial hair.

2. Honey + Lemon

Honey + Lemon

Honey has exfoliating properties and is often combined with lemon (used as a brightening stimulator) to remove facial hair. It is milder than wax, definitely, but it helps pull hair out of its follicles.

How to use it:

  • Mix an entire lemon with half a tablespoon of honey to form a smooth and consistent paste.
  • Apply this paste to the place where you want to remove the facial hair from.
  • Leave it for about 20-25 minutes and let it sit.
  • After it dries, use your fingers to remove it.

3.  Rice Flour + Turmeric + Milk

Rice flour is also easily available in every Indian home. It comes with exfoliating properties which act as an agent to naturally remove unwanted hair from your face. Not just that, it leaves your skin smooth and soft because it also removes the dead cells. Turmeric has antiseptic and brightening properties. Together these two elements create wonders for your skin, especially when it comes to hair removal.

How to use it:

  • Take 3 tablespoons of rice flour and one tablespoon of turmeric powder.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of milk and mix all the ingredients together to form a paste.
  •  Add water, only if necessary.
  • Apply this mask on your face and leave it for 30 minutes.
  • After it’s completely dry you can wash it off with lukewarm water.

4.  Lentils + Potato + Honey

  • Make sure you soak the lentils overnight and the next morning you grind them to make a thick paste.
  • Peel the potato and use a processor to extract the juice from it.
  • Mix both the lentil paste and the potato juice well together.
  • The last step would be to add lemon juice and honey.
  • Apply on your face and wait for half an hour.
  • Only after it’s completely dry rub it off with your fingers.

5.  Egg + Cornflour

Filled with proteins and collagen-producing properties, eggs provide nutrients to skin which leads to skin tightening and whitening. This not only gives a rejuvenated feeling, but it also makes your skin look younger. Eggs are also helpful in ways one can imagine – removing unwanted hair from your face. Adding cornflour helps to thicken the paste and pull out facial hair.

How to use it:

  • Take 2 tablespoons of sugar with one tablespoon of cornflour.
  • Add one egg to form a thick paste.
  • Apply it onto the face and let it SIT dry for 15-20 minutes.
  • Gently peel it off only after it’s dried.
  • For best results, repeat thrice a week.

6.  Raw Papaya + Turmeric

Raw Papaya + Turmeric

There are a lot of benefits of raw papaya. It adds glow to your skin because it removes the dead skin cells from the top layer of the skin that in turn results in younger and brighter looking skin. Raw papaya is known to have an enzyme which is called ‘papain’ – this enzyme breaks down hair follicles from the roots and restricts facial hair growth. Adding turmeric just increases the effectiveness of raw papaya by acting as a brightening agent.

How to use it:

  • Take a few sliced pieces of raw papaya and make that into a fine paste.
  • Add half a teaspoon of turmeric powder to this paste and mix it.
  • Massage it onto your face for about 15-20 minutes. Make sure you do this in circular motions on a clean face.
  • Once dried, wash it off with cold water.

For best results, use the mask twice a week.
